The ZetaPlus measures the surface charge of small particles (0.002 - 30 microns) in dilute suspensions. Note: SIZING IS DOWN and will remain down; the correlator board is bad. Zeta PALS & PW are OK. Latest Status Log EntryDec 23, 2020 - Resource Status Down - Down for storage

The Brookhaven ZetaPlus measures particle size by dynamic light scattering (DLS), and zeta potential by two methods; phase analysis light scattering (PALS) and Doppler shift analysis (ZetaPlus). Doppler and phase analysis measure the velocity of charged, colloidal particles in suspension. The ratio of velocity to applied electric field is called the mobility. The mobility is related to zeta potential by the Smoluchowski or Huckel mobility equations. Particle size range is 2 nm to 2 microns for size, and 2 nm to 30 microns for zeta, as long as the particles do not settle. Concentrations are around 0.01 to 0.001 volume % particles.
